Died in Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois

Daughter of Marion Poland 1868 – 1945 and Nina Beatrice WILLIAMS 1875 – 1954

In the County Clerk's office in Aledo, Mercer Cty, IL, Darlene's birth is recorded as being 15 August 1912. The family actually could not remember, but they thought she was born on August 20th and her entire life, her family celebrated it on the 20th. Officially & legally it has to be the 15th since it was recorded as that date.

Darlene taught two years before her marriage in 1935 in Mercer County, IL and later one year in Sherrard, Mercer County, Il. She taught as a Lay-Teacher for one year at St. Francis school in Ottawa, IL which she enjoyed thoroughly. And, she finished out her teaching career in Lyons Township School District where she made many friends of the parents of her students. When she retired, she had earned a Teacher's Pension, which along with her husband's Social Security, provided her with comforts in her old age. She understood clearly the importance of having a safety-net for the elderly. She appreciated having it a lot!

Her ashes were scattered by her children near their father's burial site in Colorado. Ralph Oris Gustafson.
