Birth: Dec., 1828, Ireland
Death: Dec. 19, 1895
De Tour Village
Chippewa County
Michigan, USA

PLEASE NOTE: BORN COUNTY ARMAGH, IRELAND. There is no option to choose this county, although it's currently in existence {SOURCE:}

Benjamin Robinson (II) is son of Benjamin Robinson (I) and Dorothy/Dorothea Ritchie of North Ireland. He was second of four children (possibly six; still researching the last two children so will not post names here until confirmed).

1-JONATHAN ROBINSON (1824 1896) m. 1st to ELIZABETH BALL, possibly sister of Benjamin II's wife ANN(A) BALL, with whom he had 5 children; after Elizabeth's 1859 death, m. 2nd to MATILDA CHESNEY, with whom he had 9 children.

2-ELIZABETH ROBINSON (1838 after 1901) m. 1st to JAMES BURNS; they had 8 children. After James' 1881 death, she m. 2nd to EDWARD F. LANDER; no children.

3-MARY JANE ROBINSON (1840 after 1885) m. 1st to DAVID NELSON; m. 2nd to JOHN O'BRIEN. Children unknown. Appears she stayed in Owen Sound area of Grey Co., Ontario, Canada.

MARRIAGE #1-Benjamin married 1st about 1852 in either Ireland or Ontario Canada (still researching) to ANN/ANNA J BALL (1833-abt. 1864). Together they had 9 children:

1-ANN JANE ROBINSON (1852 1862)

3-ELIZABETH ROBINSON (1854 1934) m. 1st to JAMES DICKEY; m. 2nd to JAMES KERR

4-SARAH ROBINSON (1856 1934) m. 1st to JOHN A. HART; m. 2nd to John's brother GEORGE HART; m. 3rd to PATRICK GENTER/GINTER

8-ELIZABETH ROBINSON (1863 ?) last appears in 1871 Census, age 8.

MARRIAGE #2-Benjamin had two children with Agnes Ann Carleton Banks, whom he married 20 Nov 1865 in Normanby, Grey, Ontario, Canada:

1-JONATHAN ROBINSON (c. 1868-1879)
2-AGNES ROBINSON (1871-1879)

These two young children, age 11 and 8, d. of diptheria within 6 days of each other (Agnes d. 10 Jul 1879, Jonathan d. 16 Jul 1879). Based on later events in Agnes Ann' life documented by the newspaper articles, it is likely this trauma caused a great deal of distress in her life from which she may not have fully recovered.

c. 1864/65 - Age: 35/36, Death of 1st wife, Ann(a) J. Ball, prob. in Grey Co., Ontario, Canada. Benjamin & Anna's last child, David William Robinson, was b. 22 Feb 1864 and Benjamin married in 20 Nov 1865 to Agnes Ann (Carleton) Banks, so Ann(a) Ball likely died shortly after David's birth in 1864 or early in 1865.

1880: Emigration to United States, prob. through Sault Ste. Marie or De Tour, Chippewa, MI USA. It's likely that the diptheria deaths of his 2 youngest children with 2nd wife Agnes prompted the move. SOURCE: 1896 Sault Ste. Marie News, article about his death in Schlesser Twp., Raber, Chippewa, MI USA states he came to the U.S. in 1880, and since he settled in the DeTour area, he may have come through that port.
