Officer James R. Burgoon, DSN 7579, was commissioned as a police officer on December 15, 1969. After completion of the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Academy, Officer Burgoon was assigned to the 7th District on April 6, 1970. He remained in this district for over 10 years and was subsequently transferred to Police Headquarters to the Criminal Investigation Division on October 20, 1980. On December 14, 1992, his assignment was changed to the Warrant and Fugitive Section. These select officers are responsible for traveling all over the United States and conveying extremely dangerous felons back to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department to be "Booked" accordingly for their crime(s) and to stand trial. Officer Burgoon retired on June 3, 1993 after 23.47 years of faithful and dedicated service to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Burgoon, James R. was fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Wednesday, September 12, 2012. Beloved husband of Marilyn Burgoon (nee Morris). Loving father of Kathy (Mike) Petersen, Kelly (Josh) Garvey and the late Timothy Michael Burgoon. Dear Grandpa of Erin, Nick and Matthew Petersen, and Kailey and Sammi Garvey. Dearest brother of Father Charles Burgoon, Joe (Jackie) and Roseanne Burgoon. Dear Son-in-Law of Mary Jane Morris: Tom's brother-in-law, Tom and the late Marcella Morris, Nick Morris, and Sharon Gibson, Our loving uncle, cousin, and friend.
