Lydia is the daughter of Amanda E. Burchfield. In the 1900 US census the family is living in the 16th District. Lydia is the mother of Kara L. Burchfield and was the granddaughter of and living with the infamous Sam Burchfield in 1910. He was arrested for the murder in December 1897 of George Powell. Sam was accused of the murder by his accomplice and son-in-law, Hale Hughes who was sentenced to 20 years for the murder. Hale had been a witness against Burchfield in a moonshining case.
