| Birth: | Feb. 20, 1831 Madison County Iowa, USA | | Death: | Dec. 17, 1893 San Diego San Diego County California, USA |  Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. In July 1861, he enlisted in the 2nd Iowa Volunteer Cavalry and was commissioned a Captain. He was with the 2nd Cavalry through all it’s campaigns from the march to Missouri, in February 1862 to the end of the war. Rising to the rank of Colonel in command of the 2nd Regiment, he was a participant in the Meridan Yazoo River, Mississippi, assault August 1863 to March 1864, the campaigns in Alabama and Tennessee, including the Battle of Nashville, November 14, 1864 to January 23, 1865. For his honor and dedication to duty, he was brevetted Brigadier General of U.S. Volunteers on March 8, 1865.
