Wanda attended Sam Hughes Elementary School and Mansfeld Junior High School, and graduated from Tucson High School before attending Wellesley College where she graduated in the class of 1956. After college, she worked at an architectural firm in Los Angeles, but soon moved back to Tucson where she met her husband of 52 years, Lemuel C. Shattuck. Together they had one daughter, Pamela.
Wanda belonged to and served in many charitable organizations including the Junior League of Tucson, the Board of Visitors of St. Luke's in the Desert, Inc., Silver and Turquoise Board of Hostesses, and P.E.O. Chapter E. She was a longtime political activist and cared deeply for the environment. One of her most satisfying undertakings was her service on the Pima County Conservation Bond Acquisition Committee. Wanda was a remarkable person and a true original.
She is survived by her husband, Lemuel; daughter, Pamela Thyret; son-in-law, Russell Thyret; stepchildren, Lemuel "Tuck" Shattuck, Mark Shattuck and Melissa Shattuck, and grandchildren, Lemuel, Heather, Shea, Sarah and Rebecca, as well as her beloved puppy, Sissy.
Many thanks to TMC Hospice and her wonderful caregivers. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday September 15, 2012 at St. Albans Episcopal Church, 3738 Old Sabino Canyon Road, in Tucson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke's Home, 615 E. Adams Street, Tucson, AZ 85705 or another charitable organization. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL. bringfuneralhome.com
