John B. Schumacher, formerly of Venturia, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2012, at Sanford Medical Center.

Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of John's life will be held at 10:00 am Monday, September 10, at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in Zeeland.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm Sunday, September 9, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a vigil/rosary will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

John was born on January 3, 1924, to Bernard and Elizabeth (Klein) Schumacher in Zeeland, ND, where he resided for 82 years on the family homestead farm. John entered Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in 2006 until the present.

John married Alice Jung on November 11, 1947. Together they had ten children, Dennis (Adele) Schumacher, Larry (Sue) Schumacher, Joseph (who died as an infant), Gerry (Karen) Schumacher, Duane (Sheri) Schumacher, Marilyn Kramer, Sheila (Harley) Lacher, Paulette (Brian) Jorgenson, Annette Weigel, and Michelle Peake.

John was devoted to his faith and was a loving father and grandfather who so much cherished his children and grandchildren. He loved visiting with family and friends, playing cards, and dancing. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. We will always remember and miss him dearly.

John is survived by his wife; nine children; one sister, Katherine Rohrich; twenty-three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Joseph; six brothers, Paul, Anton, Bernard, Sebastian, Michael, and Joseph; and two sisters, Magdalena Engelhart, Elizabeth Schumacher; and one son-in-law, Tyler Peake.

The family would like to thank the staff at MSLCC for the exceptional care of their father, John, for the past 6 1/2 years. Also a special thanks to the 4th floor nursing staff at Sanford for their compassion and care during his last hours. We greatly appreciate all that they did for all of us.
