Jay a. Maynard, 65, painter and a resident of this city the past twenty-five years, died suddenly in the office of the Reno Inn, 209 East Third street, about 12:30 a.m. today. Officials, called by Thomas Matzen, proprietor of the restaurant, said death apparently was due to a heart attack. Maynard had been employed by Matzen at various times.
Matzen said he found Maynard on the floor of the office shortly after midnight. He was able to rouse him, but a few minutes later the man lapsed into a coma from which he could not be aroused. Alarmed, Matzen summoned police and a doctor. Maynard expired before the doctor could arrive, however.
He was born at Cresco, Iowa, Nov. 18, 1874, and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John W. Maynard. He had been a painter the past forty years. At one time he was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge at Doniphan. The only surviving relative is his sister, Mrs. George Harris, this city.
Funeral services will be held at the Geddes funeral home Wednesday at two o'clock, with Rev. F. F. Gross officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island cemetery.
