C.E. Eppley Succumbs At 53 Years

Creedin E. Eppley, RD6, Carlisle, president and general manager of Cochran & Allen, Inc., where he worked since 1934, died after suffering a heart attack while driving his car on a rural road in South Middleton Township, early yesterday morning. He was 53 years old.

According to State police of the Carlisle substation, Eppley was traveling east on Township Road 575 about 9 a.m. when he apparently became ill. His car crashed into a tree. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Carlisle Hospital.

He is the husband of Ruth Kester Eppley and was born on May 26, 1916, a son of Eva Gelbaugh Eppley, Carlisle and the late L. Eugene Eppley.

He was a graduate of Carlisle High School, Class of 1934 and also the Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia. Eppley was a veteran of World War II, when he was a major with the 80th Division.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the board of trustees of the Carlisle Hospital, a member of the board of directors of the Farmers Trust Company and vice-president and member of the Central Penn Automobile Club.

Mr. Eppley was also a member and past president of the Carlisle Rotary Club, member and past president of the Carlisle Country Club, member and past president of the Pennsylvania Atlantic Seaboard Hardware Association; and secretary of the Carlisle Area Industrial Development Association.

He also held membership in the St. John's Lodge, No. 260 F and AM and the Zembo Temple; the Elks Lodge, the Carlisle Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Post No. 101 and the VFW Post No. 477, both of Carlisle.

He was a past director of the Carlisle United Community Fund and a past director of the Cumberland County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, who lives at 140 Wilson Street; and a sister, Mrs. Marshall L. Line, 65 Rolling Drive.

The funeral service will be held tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Russell M. Weer, officiating. Burial will be in the Westminster Cemetery. There will be no viewing. The funeral arrangements are in charge of the Hoffman Funeral Home, 219 North Hanover Street.
