KOEHLER, CLARA ELIZABETH—Clara Elizabeth Hoover Koehler, daughter of Louise Lynn and John S. Hoover, was born in Middletown, Ind., December 26, 1870. She was the second of three children, her brothers being William George Hoover of Kansas City, Mo., who died in 1947, and Howard Lynn Hoover of San Mateo, Cal., who is living with a daughter in New Jersey.
The Hoover family moved to Hastings, Neb., in 1876 and the following year to Blue Hill, where Clara Hoover grew to womanhood.
In October, 1896, Miss Hoover was married to Barthold Koehler at the family home in blue Hill. They came to Geneva, where Mr. Koehler was associated with his brother in the lumber and grain business and there they continued to make their home.
To this union were born five children: sons John, Ben and George of Geneva, Barthold, who died in infancy, and a daughter, Louise, now Mrs. Charles Picard of Kingman, Ariz. There are 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Until her health failed, Mrs. Koehler was active in civic and church organizations. She was a devoted worker in the Geneva Congregational church, serving as president of the women’s organization. She was a member of Chapter O. P. E. O., many years and served several terms as president. She was a long-time member of the Geneva Woman’s club and the Literary and Art department of the O.K. Kensington. She also was a member of the Geneva Eastern Star many years.
Barthold Koehler died December 9, 1926. Following his death, Mrs. Koehler continued to live in the home they had together planned and built, for almost 30 more years. Her life was lived with great dignity of character and in that same dignity, she passed away on the evening of December 6, 1956, at the age of 85 year 11 months and 10 days.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, December 8, at 3 o’clock at the Congregational church of Geneva.
