She married William Monroe Sams on October 19, 1900 in Edwards county. Her husband was a painter decorator, and they moved to Bement in 1910 and then later to Urbana Illinois. William died in 1946 and Bertha followed her three daughters to Orange County, California.
William & Bertha had four children, Jessie Lavina, Gladys Irene, Blanch Velma & Maynard Eugene Sams.
