| Birth: | Dec. 10, 1957 Chicago Cook County Illinois, USA | | Death: | Sep. 3, 2012 Los Angeles Los Angeles County California, USA | Actor. Best remembered for his Academy Award nominated role as the condemned inmate John Coffey in the motion picture adaptation of the Stephen King novel "The Green Mile" (1999). Raised in the South Side of Chicago, he attended Alcorn State University in Mississippi where he studied Communications. However, a career in this field never materialized and he would return to Chicago where he worked at such jobs as a ditch digger for the gas company and nightclub bouncer. A position in security for a traveling stage company led to his relocation to Los Angeles. From his mother's persuasion, Duncan pursued acting and was soon discovered which led to his casting in TV roles on episodes of such programs as "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", "Married with Children" and "The Jamie Foxx Show". Among his earliest impression in motion pictures was playing Bear in the Bruce Willis vehicle "Armageddon" (1998). He died of complications from a heart attack that he suffered in July of 2012.
