He is survived by three daughters, Betsey Gordon and her husband Barry, Janice Rosen and her husband Hank, Paula Frant and her husband Roger; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Nancy Baer Auerhaan.
Mr. Auerhaan joined the Boy Scouts of America as a young boy and remained active for over 75 yrs. He received the highest award and was recently honored for 75 yrs. of continuous service.
He spent his professional years as a safety engineer working for the Brooklyn Naval Yard during World War II as safety director for the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad and for Stanley Works until his retirement in 1976.
He was an active member of the National Society of Safety Engineers for over 50 yrs., served with OSHA assisting in formulating many of the OSHA standards for highway safety, promoting the use of seatbelts, and setting standards for factories and power press machines.
Graveside funeral service will be held TODAY, 11 a.m. at the Mishkan Israel Cemetery on Whalley Ave., in New Haven. Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America. Period of mourning will be observed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the home of Barry and Betsey Gordon in Farmington and on Friday evening, at the home of Roger, Paula and Emily Frant in Amherst, MA.
