William was the son of William Dewey Nale and Nellie Harrell Nale of Truxno, Union Parish, Louisiana. He attended Farmerville High School in Farmerville, Union Parish, Louisiana.
PFC William Harrell Nale served in World War II. In 1942, William entered the United States Army and trained in the Panama Canal Zone. He served in the European Theater of Operations. William was awarded the ATO Medal, ETO Medal and GC Medal. He was wounded in Germany. In 1945, William was discharged.
On 15 April 1948, William Harrell Nale and Elsie May Templeton were married in Union County, Arkansas.
William was the 9th great grandson of Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower. Hopkins was a passenger on the Mayflower and Signer of the Mayflower Compact. William was the 8th great grandson of Giles Hopkins, and Giles was a child on the Mayflower.
Three of William's ancestors are documented Daughters of the American Revolution soldiers and patriots. These DAR ancestors are Captain James Green, Jesse Cook and John Cole.
