Charles E. Skewes' obituary stated that he was born in Bessemer, Jackson Co., Alabama, but Bessemer is actually in Jefferson County.
Early in his life, Charles E. Skewes was the motorman and conductor of the Nevada County Traction Company (the electric trolley line that ran between Grass Valley and Nevada City). The Nevada County Traction Company was principally owned by the Skewes family.
No marker is present in the Skewes family plot at Old Elm Ridge Cemetery, but there is room for at least one other interment in this plot. Charles' mother, who died just two days after her son, has the type of marker that is, by now, frequently missing it's metal tag. Quite often the little stone that held the metal tag in place goes missing as well. Charles' obituary stated he was buried at Elm Ridge Cemetery. Charles was a married man, who had two children, whether there might be another Skewes plot has not been determined.
