A native of Rancho Viejo, Dominican Republic, Victor Manuel De La Cruz Gil made his major league debut on June 24, 1978, and played his final game on October 1, 1983. Cruz who was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals as an amateur free agent in 1976, played for the Toronto Blue Jays in 1978, Cleveland Indians from 1979 to 1980, Pittsburgh Pirates in 1981, and the Texas Rangers in 1983. In 5 seasons in major league baseball Cruz recorded an 18-23 record with 35 saves, pitched 271 innings in 128 games, and posted a 3.09 ERA. Cruz passed away in September 2004 at the age of 46, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. (bio by: K)
