Mr. Clayton Tiller, age 80, of the Tiller Town section of Council, Virginia, passed away Friday (August 24, 2012) at his home. Born January 3, 1932 in Council, Virginia, he was a son of the late Garland and Lennie Jane Tiller. He had spent most of his life in the area and had retired in 1976 from Island Creek Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA. A United States Army veteran, he was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the VFW in Buchanan County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of fifty years, Retha Tiller, two daughters, Loretha Ann Tiller Barton and Teresa Marie Tiller, two sons, Randall Clayton Tiller and Ricky Tiller, grandson, Ricky Wayne Barton, four brothers, Bona Washington Tiller, Gurvis Tiller, Jessee Tiller, and Hurshel Tiller, and five sisters, Rosabell Tiller Groce, Dolly Tiller Duty, Janice Tiller, Joyce Tiller, and Arbutus Tiller Miller.
Survivors include wife, Donna Lynne Compton Tiller of the home; one son, Daniel Duty and wife, Nina of Council; step-daughter, Stephanie Reese; son-in-law, Gary Bruce Barton of Council; Grandsons, Gary Clayton Barton and wife, Teresa and Daniel Duane Duty both of Council; granddaughter, Kelly Christina Bostic and husband, Billy of Richlands; one brother, Lawrence Tiller; one sister, Goldie Tiller Monk; great-grandsons, Dustin Barton, Brandon Barton, and Michael Bostic; great-granddaughters, Sadie Barton, Sarah Barton, Alexia Bostic, and Summer Bostic; step-great-granddaughter, Samantha Cook; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Retha Tiller Cemetery at Council, Virginia.
Military honors will be conducted by Grundy VFW Post 7360.
Pallbearers will be Michael Bostic, Dustin Barton, Tim Tiller, Robbie Tiller, Willie Sullivan, Larry Tiller (ET), and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Vernal Boyd, Raymond Tiller, Ronald Tiller, Willis Tiller, Hassel Tiller, Barney Tiller, Dewey Tiller, and Bernard Sykes.
Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Sunday, where an evening service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
