Murder Victim. He was a French-Algerian student killed by French Police during a student protest in 1986. The protest was to demonstrate a bill (le projet de réforme universitaire Devaquet), put forth by the French government. On the Monday after his death 300,000 people quietly rallied in Paris, roughly 1,000,000 overall throughout France to protest his murder. Prime Minister for the government Jacques Chirac withdrew the volatile bill. The two officers involved directly in the incident were sentenced on January 28, 1990. One officer to five years and the other to two years of prison with deferment.
