Josephine was the daughter of Clarence James and Adesta Fidele (Berry) Hindman. Her father, Clarence died in May 1942 in Washington, D.C. She was part Creek Indian. Josephine finished high shcool at Monte Cassino Convent in Tulsa, OK. She completed one year of College in Paris, France and the three following years at Oklahoma University at Norman. She was one of forty outstanding students in the Class of 1100 graduates. She began work in Washington D.C. as secretary to the Assistant Department of Interior Secretary. She married Mont Hubbard, a Colonel in the Army on April 07, 1942.

Josephine Hindman Hubbard, 92, of Fredericksburg, formerly of Altavista, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, at her home. She was the wife of the late Mont Hubbard. Born June 5, 1913, in Tulsa, Okla., she was the daughter of the late Clarence James Hindman and Adesta Fidele Berry Hindman.

Mrs. Hubbard grew up in Tulsa and attended American High School in Paris, France, from which she graduated in 1930. She matriculated at the University of Oklahoma, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and majored in French. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1934. After college, Mrs. Hubbard worked during the New Deal in Washington, D.C., as the administrative assistant for the chief architect of the housing division of the Public Works Administration. Later, she returned to Tulsa and worked for several companies in the burgeoning oil industry, including Shell Oil Co. She met her husband, Mont Hubbard from Chatham, a graduate of Virginia Military Institute, during World War II, when then-Lt. Hubbard was attending a Battery Officer Course at Fort Sill, Okla. She was married April 7, 1942, at Davis Monthan Field in Tucson, Ariz., one of dozens of war brides married that weekend in the post chapel.
After the war, the couple returned to Mr. Hubbard's home in Chatham but soon moved to Altavista, where they built a successful business, Altavista Concrete Products, and reared six children.

During the early years of the business, Mrs. Hubbbard worked as bookkeeper at Altavista Concrete Products. Later, the family lived for several years in Hurt, where she taught seventh grade at Hurt Elementary School. After returning to Altavista, Mrs. Hubbard was active in the Altavista Garden and Book Clubs, and she was instrumental in the establishment of St. Victoria Catholic Church in Hurt. After her husband's death, Mrs. Hubbard moved to Boulder, Colo., in 1972, where she was employed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Subsequently, during her retirement she enjoyed world travel, including trips to Europe and South America and a circumnavigation as a student in the floating university, Semester at Sea.
She is survived by four sons, Mont Hubbard Jr. of Davis, Calif., Steve Hubbard of Hunter, N.Y., Hardy Hubbard of Dallas, Texas, and Henry Hubbard of Fredericksburg; two daughters, Juliana Hubbard Schon of Baltimore, Md., and Mary Louise Fingland of Lakeland, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 12, at St. Victoria Catholic Church, Hurt. Interment will follow in Green Hill Cemetery in Altavista. Family and friends are invited to a reception at St. Victoria Catholic Church immediately following the service.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 11, at Finch & Finch Inc. Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista, and suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider the Alzheimer's Association, Chicago, Ill.
