Eli S. Nims Died suddenly October 23, 1931 from Heart Attack
Former Mills County Man Died Friday in South Dakota
The sad news reached Mills County relatives last Friday evening of the death of Eli S. Nims, a former resident of southeast Mills county, that day, at his home near White Lake, South Dakota.
He had been ill with heart trouble a few days preceding but on the day in question was feeling better and had gone to the field to fix some fence. He had another attack while there and lay down to rest himself, but soon lapsed into unconsciousness and never rallied, passing away a short time later.
The body was brought to Malvern, accompanied by Mrs. Nims and son, Ralph of Mitchell, South Dakota, and funeral services held in the Methodist Church Monday afternoon at 2:30. It was largely attended by relatives and friends from the east side who filled the church to over flowing. The service was conducted by the Rev. Roy E. Gugeler, Jr. McClymond, and Fred Farquhar and Mrs. H. Amos sang.
Interment was made in the Malvern Cemetery.

Eli Smiley Nims, son of William A. and Martha nims was born in Jones County, Iowa, July 4, 1878 and died suddenly near his home north of White Lake, South Dakota, October 31, 1931.
He moved with his parents to Mills County, Iowa when six years old where he lived until he was married.
He was married March 6, 1901 to Bertha Abbott. They first made their home in Harrison County, Iowa, later moving to Colorado where they lived six years, returning to Iowa in 1913. They moved to the Dakotas in 1919 where they have since resided.
He is survived by his widow, two sons, Ralph of Mitchell, South Dakota, and Harold at home, and one little granddaughter. Also by his aged mother of Hastings, one brother, Arthur W. Nims of Emerson and four sisters, Laura Hall of Hastins, Lena Moore of Woodbine, Althea Norton of Imogene, and Stella Nims at homs. His father preceded him in death about five weeks ago.
He has been an active member of the Farmers Union for nearly twenty-give years, joining as a charter member in Colorado.
When a young man he was converted and joined the Methodist Church. All his life he remained a faithful Christian.
He was a progressive, upright citizen, a good neighbor, a loving husband and fatheer. He will be greatly missed.
Relatives, aside from the immediate family coming from a distance were, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Norton and son, Sam, of Reliance, South Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Abbott of Douglas, Nebraska, Frank Hall of White Lake, South Dakota, A. W. Blackwell of Kimball, South Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Moore, Mr. and Mrs. ernest Moore and son, clyde, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hammack, and daughter, Betty Lou, and Ted Moore, all of Woodbine, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Zaelke of villisca, Mr. and Mrs. Edd Knight, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Nims, and Mrs Frank Shaw, all of Red Oak, Iowa.
