Gary R. Cox, former Boone businessman, died Thursday in a Spruce Pine hospital, following an extended illness. Funeral services were held in the Spruce Pine Methodist Church Sunday, where he was a member, by the Reverend Robert Early and the Reverend R. M. Cassidy.
Burial followed in Boone at the Mountlawn Memorial Park, where a brief service was conducted by Mr. Early and the Reverend E. H. Lowman of the Boone Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Evelyn White and three sisters and three brothers.
Mr. Cox was connected with the Blue Ridge Music Company for several years in Boone, later being in the laundry business and before moving to Spruce Pine, he operated a service station on the Blowing Rock Road in Boone. At the time of his death he was owner and operator of the Spruce Pine News Center.
