Edward "Edza" Zawada, age 79, of East Chicago, IN passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the Dyer Nursing Home in Dyer, IN. He was the loving son of the late Andrew and Julia Zawada. Edza was the last surviving brother of Valentine (Albany) Zawada, Joseph (Celia) Zawada, Casimir (Celia) Zawada, Katherine (John) Golubiewski and Anne Zawada. Edza was the loving uncle of many nieces and nephews; and several godchildren all across the nation. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. at the Lesniak Funeral Home, 4918 Magoun Ave., East Chicago, IN and a 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Stanislaus Church with Msgr. John J. Siekierski officiating. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL. Friends may call at the Lesniak Funeral Home for visitation on Wednesday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Rosary service at 3:00 p.m. Legion service at 6:00 p.m. Edza served in Europe in the Army during the Korean War. When he returned, he unselfishly cared for his mother "Busia" for many years. He worked at several places of employment during his life including Junior Toy Co., Pullman Standard and Calumet National Bank. Edza was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, Knights of Columbus Unity Council and American Legion Allied Post 369. Edza will be remembered as a fun loving, religious man who was very devoted to his family and friends. He was passionate about dancing and performed on stage and in numerous clubs during his mid-years. He loved to travel and ski. He also loved to express himself through drawing and painting. At the age of 59, Edza was disabled with a stroke that left him paralyzed on his left side. He struggled to rehabilitate, but was never able to fully recover. Through this handicap, he bravely taught us to accept our shortcomings and kept his wonderful sense of humor. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Harbor Light Hospice, 500 W. Lincoln Highway, Merrillville, IN 46410 would be appreciated. Info: (219) 398-1418.
