Lucy Elizabeth "Lizzie" Handy, 87, of Cherry Creek Rd., Meadows of Dan,
died Thursday, January 4, 2001 at R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial
Hospital. She was born in Patrick County on May 8, 1913, and was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Prince Annis Vipperman Hensley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Franklin Handy; two sons, Claude Handy and Clyde "Pete" Handy; two sisters, Laurie Justice and Lottie McBride; a brother, John Hensley; a half-brother, Lawrence "Dude" Hensley; and two grandchildren. Surviving are three daughters, Beatrice Pack of Stuart, Essie Lawless of Stuart and Bessie Martin of Bassett; two half-sisters, Goldie Young of Meadows of Dan and Ruth Williams of Mount Airy, N.C.; three half-brothers, Harrison Hensley of Claudville and Burton Hensley and William Hensley, both of Mount Airy; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grand children.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Stuart.
The Revs. J.R. Shelton and Bernard Handy officiated. Burial was in the New Dan River Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers Roy Pendleton, Lloyd Pack, Bill Whitlow, Ricky Handy, Tim Pack and Ronnie Handy.
