Funeral Still Incomplete
Funeral was still pending Monday night for Mrs. LON A. BROOKS, mother of CLYDE BROOKS, and sister of Mrs. E. T. BROOKS, who died Monday in Kansas City, Missouri. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. H. REES, the former MARY EVELYN BROOKS, who is the wife of Brig. Gen. C. H. REES, Air Force operations chief for 26 states. She had been in ill health for some time. She suffered a stroke Sunday morning.
Born near Temple in 1874, Mrs. Brooks moved with her family at an early age to Killeen. She was graduated from high school there and from Thomas Arnold College in Salado. She taught school in Bell County schools until 1898 when she married Judge LON A. BROOKS. The couple moved to Anson where he was one of the pioneer lawyers of West Texas. Later they moved to Austin where he was in the secretary of state's office. Since Mr. Brooks' death in 1934, Mrs. Brooks has made her home with her children, continuing active work in church, club, and state affairs. She was a member of the St. Paul Methodist Church in Abilene.
Survivors include three children, CLYDE BROOKS, Mrs. REES, and Mrs. WALTHER H. BADGER of San Antonio; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a sister Mrs. E. T. BROOKS, and a brother, M. V. FERGUS of Killeen.
