William D. Wain Sr., 90, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2002.
He was born in Hooversville, Pa., the son of William and Cotta (Myers) Wain. His father died of Typhoid Fever at age 26 just 12 days after he was born. They wanted Cotta to "give up" Bill and his brother Clifton to the minister's family to raise but Cotta refused. She later married Lloyd Dull and the family moved to Akron a few years later.
Mr. Wain served his country in the Army during World War Two and was a member of the 145 Infantry, which was made up of a lot of Akron men. He reached the rank of Sergeant and received the Legion of Merit medal for his service. He retired from Standard Oil as a manager.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; children, William D. Wain Jr. of Beach City, Pat (Robert) McQuillan of Cuyahoga Falls, and Larry Wain of Bedford; brother, Lloyd Dull and sister, Louise Rankin, both of Akron.
