Ollie Mae Gayheart Grigsby
Ollie Mae Gayheart Grigsby, the widow of Ernest Grigsby, passed away on Friday, August 24, at the Hazard A.R.H. Hospital. At the time of her death, Mrs. Grigsby was 89 years of age. Along with her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Liza Stacy Gayheart.
Mrs. Grigsby's husband, a Tech. Sgt. with the Military Police was killed by two German youngsters near Munich, Germany. A career military man, Sgt. Grigsby was responding to cries he heard which came from people his killers were killing, and when he appeared to aid the victims, he was shot to death.
Along with her fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren, Mrs. Grigsby, a Perry County native is also survived by her daughter, Mary Lou Grigsby of Hazard and her two sons, Ellis of Hazard and Marion Grigsby of Corbin. She is also survived by two half-sisters and one half-brother.
Mrs. Grigsby's family received friends on Sunday evening, August 26, at Maggard's Mountain View Chapel where the funeral service was conducted on Monday morning with the Rev. Ronnie Grigsby officiating. Interment was at the Grigsby (Balis Napier Cemetery) Cemetery in Lotts Creek.
