Virginia Ruth Rutledge Garver, 89, of Quincy, formerly of Coatsburg, died at 12:37 a.m. Friday (July 13, 2007) in the Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville, Iowa.
Virginia was born Aug. 13, 1917, in Loraine, a daughter of Eldon and Mary Adeline Ritter Rutledge.
She married Leonard "Doc" Garver on Aug. 10, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo. He died May 29, 2003.
After graduating from the Quincy schools, she married Leonard and started her family. She drove the school bus for Camp Point Special Education children for many years.
She enjoyed bowling, softball and fishing.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Paloma and the United Church of Christ in Quincy for many years, as well as a member of the Masonic Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son, Albert Garver and his wife, Sandra, of Athens; a daughter, Mary Ann Garver of Iowa City, Iowa; four grandsons, Mike Garver of Decatur, Andy Garver and his wife, Dawn, of Kansas City, Mo., Matt Garver of Bloomington and Tim Garver and his wife, Ashley, of Chicago; and a brother, Howard Rutledge of Quincy.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband and nephew, Steve Rutledge.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon by the Rev. Timothy White. Interment will be in the Paloma Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Monday in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Iowa City Hospice.
The Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon is in charge of arrangements.
