About Vaden Giles
Vaden Giles, b June 15, 1820 in Pittsylvania Co., Va., d July 25, 1872 in Lincoln Co., Mo.

Vaden married Nancy Harper, our Maternal Great Great Grandmother, on December 30, 1841 in Lincoln County, Missouri.

Great Great Grandmother Nancy (Harper) Giles is the daughter of Jacob Harper and Elizabeth (Worsham) Harper. Jacob and Elizabeth (Worsham) Harper married on 10-17-1816 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Nancy Harper Giles died June 25, 1858 in Lincoln Co., Mo. Nancy had eight siblings. Her oldest brother, William Harper, married Martha S. Morgan, daughter of Mordecai Morgan and Katherine Turner Morgan. William was a tobacco farmer who later became a merchant in Audrain County, Missouri. Nancy also had a younger brother named John H. Harper (born 1829) who married Virginia Archer in 1855. Note about Nancy Harper's Burial: According to cousin George Giles who lives in the Lincoln County region, Nancy Harper Giles was buried on Vaden and Nancy's original farm located within a mile of Shelton Cemetery. Vaden sold that farm. There is no visible grave marker, so the location of Nancy's exact grave site on that farm is uncertain.

Note: Charles Allen Harper wrote a history of the Jacob Harper family in 1928. It includes biographical information on each of Jacob's children. This history was published in the Winter, 2011 issue of the Lincoln County, Missouri Genealogical Society Messenger Newsletter (George W. Giles, Editor and Recording Secretary)(Volume 29, Issue 1, Winter, 2011, Page 3). The document says Vaden and Nancy's original farm was located on Coon Creek, three miles east of Hawk Point.

Note about Vaden's parents Ephraim and Nancy Chattin Giles burials: According to cousin George Giles who lives in the Lincoln County region, Ephraim and Nancy Chattin Giles are buried south of Hawk Point on farmland they formerly owned where some Harpers were said to also be buried. They owned land in Lincoln County closer to the Warren County line, so they were buried on the farm. The property ownership has changed over time. There are no visible grave markers now, so the exact locations of the graves are unknown.

The census shows Vaden living in Camp Branch, Warren Co., MO in 1860, and in Clark, Warren Co., MO in 1870. The census listed his occupation as a farmer. (This info was located on the http://FamilySearch.org web site and was submitted to the web site by: Nancy GILES, 713 Brook Meadow Ct, Virginia Beach, VA, 23462)

About Vaden's second marriage:
Vaden later married Susan Jane Caruthers, and the 1870 census records listed Vaden's two youngest children, Mildred and William, living at home with Vaden and Susan. Vaden's occupation in the 1870 census was listed as farmer

Footnote: The Giles family lived near the former village of Linns Mill (between Hawk Point and Troy) in Lincoln County, Missouri.

The property was later owned by the Moores and is now owned by the Parsons. The rock house still stands in its original location on the property. Genealogist Sue Stice said she and her grandmother visited the property and saw some stones that were not regular tombstones and may have been etched at one time, but none of them are decipherable.
