The inscription on his tomb in the "Old Ground" in Pequonoc reads "In memory of Ens. Daniel Avery who nobly sacrificed his life in defense of liberties of America at Fort Griswold, September 6, 1781, in the 40th year of his age. See also Nos. 1462 and 3848.
