Resident of Pittsburg Mary Abono, 85, peacefully passed away May 21, 2009 at Kaiser Medical Center, Antioch. She was a native and lifelong resident of Pittsburg and was a graduate of Pittsburg High School. For 25 years, Mary worked as a floor lady in the local canneries. She also worked 10 years as an Instructional Aide at Heights Elementary School. She was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd. She enjoyed her family and cooking. Mary is survived by her husband of 67 years, Horace "Lefty" Abono, sons John Abono (Diane) and Frank Abono (Barbara), grandchildren: Tangie, Cont- essa, Cecil, Laura, Alex, and Dante; great grandsons: Antonio, Gabriel, and Dominic; sister Nina Russo, brothers: Ned, Sam, Andy, and Dede Anello, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sons Cecil and Gary Abono, daughter-in-law Tammie Abono, and brothers Tony and Nash Anello. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2009 from 5-7pm with a vigil at 7pm at Church of the Good Shepherd. Funeral liturgy Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 10am at Church of the Good Shepherd. Committal services following at Holy Cross Cemetery. Contributions can be made to a favorite charity. Pittsburg Funeral Chapel (925) 432-2114
