"On November 30, 1903 in Antioch, Contra Costa, California, Salvatore married Francesca Costanzo, daughter of Pietro Costanzo and Maria Bruno. Francesca was born October 23, 1887 in Isola delle Femmine, Palermo Province, Sicily. One day after her 16th birthday, Francesca boarded the Sicilian Prince in the city of Palermo, Palermo Province, Sicily and sailed for America. She arrived at Ellis Island on November 9, 1903 and was married 21 days later. Francesca died February 28, 1980 in Pittsburg, Contra Costa, California. The following is her obituary from the February 29, 1980 edition of the Pittsburg Post Dispatch.
Frances "Bucket" Russo, 92, a longtime Pittsburg resident, died Thursday in Pittsburg Manor Convalescent Hospital following a long illness.
A member of a prominent pioneer family, she came to Pittsburg at the age of 16 with her late parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Costanza, from Isola delle Femmine, Italy. Her father was a commercial fisherman.
She married Salvatore Russo soon after her arrival. Since there was no Catholic church established in Pittsburg at that time, the couple was married in Antioch. Many friends and relatives, along with the wedding party, made the trip to Antioch by boat. Active for many years in church and civic affairs, Mrs. Russo was a member of the Sons of Italy and a former member of the Italian Catholic Federation and St. Rosalie Society.
She was employed with the F. E. Booth Co. and California Western Canners for a total of 35 years. Her husband died in 1937.
She is survived by five daughters Helen Russo, Marie Aiello and Rose Bartimioli, all of Pittsburg, Angie Paniagua of Antioch and Ethel Paremo, Yuma, Arizona; and three sons, Peter and Frank Russo of Pittsburg and Vincent Russo of Martinez.
Survivors also include 23 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Rosary for Mrs. Russo will be recited Sunday at 8 p.m. in Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Martyr Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Antioch."
