MYRTLE J. DARSTEIN, died peacefully on Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home. Born May 22, 1919, in Durango, Colo., she was the daughter of Frank and Louise (Dornte) Frech. She became a lifelong resident of Aboite Township when the family returned to Fort Wayne in 1932. She attended Bullard School and graduated from Arcola High School in 1937. She was a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church. "She will forever be remembered for her graciousness, kindness, strength, love, and humor." She is survived by her sons, Schuyler (Jean) Darstein of Pfafftown, N.C., and Keith (Donna) Darstein of Columbia City; daughters, Karen Brindel and Ruth Darstein, both of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Nowell (Angela) Darstein, Alyssa Darstein, Lynn (Eric) Merrill, Jeff (Missy Stair) Darstein, Melody (John) Brink, Adam (TaResa) Brindel, Cassandra (Bryan) Kelley, Solomon Lin, and Priscilla Lin; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lucille Frech; and loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Darstein; infant son, Kenneth Darstein; and brother Henry Frech. Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2012 at Trinity English Lutheran Church with calling one hour prior. Calling also 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Klaehn Funeral Home on West Wayne St. Interment in Covington Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorials to Trinity English Lutheran Church. www.klaehnfahlmelton.com
