Mr. Thomas Michael "Mike" Deal, age 60, died on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the Ogechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a graduate of Statesboro High School. Mr. Deal earned a BBA Degree in Management and a Masters of Higher Education from Georgia Southern University. Mr. Deal retired from GSU after 30 years of service in the Office of the Registrars and served as the Registrar the last 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank G. and Cleo R. Deal. He was a member of the Pittman Park United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Wanda Newton Deal; a son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Shana Deal; three grandchildren, Luke Deal, Caroline Deal and Michael Deal; a sister, Frankie Woodrum and a brother, Gene Deal all of Statesboro; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Pittman Park United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Sheffen officiating.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Austin Hotchkiss, Thomas Mikell, Tom Woodrum, Jamie DeSarno, Richard Whitehouse, Steve Hotchkiss and Norman Holtzclaw.
Honorary pallbearers wil be the employees of the Office of the Registrar's Office of Georgia Southern University.
