Rames (Rhames) Gedge and his wife Lucy Kybird first child was born 11 November 1816 in Old Buckenham was given the name Lucy Elizabeth. She had primary schooling and then went to service in the household of John and Jemina (Trevan) Hooker in London. She started out as a general servant but soon became the housekeeper in that household. She married their son Mathew Trevan Hooker in Croyden on 31st of January 1857. By the end of the year Mathew had died leaving Lucy Elizabeth Gedge Hooker a widow. His will left her in a good situation making her an independant. She used her position to do much good for her siblings. She became the ward of Lois Elizabeth Gedge the daughter of her brother Rhames and Maria after their deaths. She sent her to good schools and opened the doors of oportunity for her niece. She also helped her sister Mary by giving her employment and being a witness to her marriage to Theophilus Smith Hewitt. She paid for the education of her youngest brother Robert to become a lithographer. He lived with her until his death. She provided for the burials of her brother Rhames and Robert. She also was helpful to her brother William when his family decided to move to America. Mary her niece who was the daughter of George and Maria (Calver) Gedge was given notice by Lucy Elizabeth and helped her to find her a position of a Lady's companion. It was Lucy Elizabeth Gedge who paid for the headstone of her parents and their 5 children. She died of a blood clot to the brain on 18th December 1898 and was buried in Berkshire.
