Sept 14, 1934 - Carroll Daily Herald - Mrs. M.W. Beach, 84, resident of Carroll for the past 67 years, died this morning at 2:10 o'clock at her home on North Court street. Death was due to old age, Mrs. Beach having been bedridden for the past seven weeks.
Lydia E Pressnell, the deceased, was born Valpariso, Ind. Sept 7, 1850, the daughter of Benona and Jane Pressnell. When she was 6 years old she moved with her parents to Henry county and later to Story county. She married M.W. Beach in 1867, and they moved immediately to Carroll, where they went to housekeeping. Mrs. Beach has occupied the present Beach residence at 613 north court street for 52 years. Mr Beach preceded Mrs Beach in death in Nov 1928.
Four children were born to this union, two surviving, Harry of Des Moines and Dr. Lena Beach of Mt. Pleasant. Dr. Beach has been at her mother's side constantly since her serious illness seven weeks ago, and Harry Beach has spent most of his time with his mother. There were six grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Beach was an active worker in the Order of the Eastern Star, and the W.C.T.U. She attended the Methodist church, though as a girl her affiliation was with the Christian church. Interment will be made in the Carroll Cemetery.
