Actor, Director and Professor. Freeman will mostly be remembered for his portrayal of Police Captain Ed Hall on the ABC soap opera, 'One Life to Live', for which he won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor for that role in 1979. His portrayal of NOI leader Elijah Muhammad in the motion picture 'Malcolm X' (1995) earned him the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture. He previously played the role of Malcolm X in the 1979 miniseries, 'Roots: The Next Generations' for which he received an Emmy nomination. Other films he apperared in were 'Ensign Pulver' (1964), 'For Pete's Sake' (1966), 'Dutchman' (1967), 'Finian's Rainbow' (1968), 'My Sweet Charlie' (1970), 'Seven Hours to Judgment' (1988) and 'Down in the Delta' (1998). Among television shows he appeared in were 'The Defenders', 'Mod Squad', 'Maude', 'Kojak', 'The Cosby Show', 'Law & Order', 'Homicide: Life on the Street', 'Hot L. Baltimore', and 'The Edge of Night'. Freeman taught acting at Howard University in Washington,D.C. and served as chairman and artistic director of its theater arts department.  (bio by: Louis Mata)
