Birth: Nov. 21, 1820
Northampton
Hampshire County
Massachusetts, USA
Death: Nov. 25, 1876
Warsaw
Coshocton County
Ohio, USA

He was an 1839 graduate of Harvard College.

He settled at Zanesville, Ohio, 1842. Editor and owner of Zanesville Courier. At Chicago, 1852; at New York, 1856; at Warsaw, 0hio, 1861; at Cleveland, 1867; at Pittsburgh, 1868, where he edited the Pittsburg Gazette. He died at Warsaw, Ohio.

Charles H. Lyman 1 was their only surviving child.

The Lyman genealogy by Lyman Coleman lists four daughters who died in childhood. The Zanesville Cemetery of their parents has no record of them. They were Sophia (25 Dec. 1845-12 Nov. 1848), Katie (16 Dec. 1847-24 June 1848), twins Clara (16 Aug. 1851-July 1852) and Nellie (16 Aug. 1851-Jan. 1853). Efforts to locate the burials are under way. The family lived in Zanesville at the time the children lived, but also visited family in Portage County near Ravenna, Ohio.

The Lyman Coleman book reports that their son Charles was born at Ravenna, but he actually was born at Zanesville, or else the record reported his family's regular residency for his birth year rather than his birth location, if away to other family. Charles attended school in Muskingum County.
