Graduated at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Bologna, he began working in cinema with film directors such as Pier Paolo Pasolini, Federico Fellini and Mario Monicelli. In 1976, Rambaldi approaches to film production in Hollywood, and became interested in mechatronics, a combination of mechanics and electronics. He was the designer and maker of acclaimed figures such as King Kong, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial and Alien. His experience in mechanical and electronic engineering allowed him to breathe life into the most fantastic movie creatures of the 1970s and '80s in almost 40 films, including "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", "Dune" and "Conan the Destroyer".
