Marian Pyott Adams-Lewis was born Nov. 29, 1924, in Salt Lake City, UT, the fourth of five daughters born to Wilford Pyott and Elsie Shorten Pyott. She passed away, as she desired, with exceptional grace and in peace, surrounded by her loving family, on Aug. 8, 2012. Marian graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City. Furthering her education, she attended the Academy of Art in Chicago, IL, Brigham Young University in Provo, UT, and ultimately graduated from the University of Utah. She completed her Master's Degree at Westminster College, Salt Lake City, UT. She married Homer E. Adams in 1946. They had 5 children, 2 boys and 3 girls, and joyfully welcomed their first granddaughter, born in 1977. Homer passed away in 1980 after a long illness. There would be 12 more amazing grandchildren, and 8 delightful great grandchildren added to Marian's beautiful family.
Marian began teaching in 1961, working at both Clayton and Bonneville Junior High Schools, in a highly successful 25-year career as an art teacher and as Director of the Art Department for Granite School District. After retirement in 1986, Marian married Melvin E. Lewis, and they enjoyed 25 years of love and friendship. She was blessed in gaining 2 step-sons and their wives, Tom and Joan, and Jim and Shannon, 5 grand-children, and 3 great grandchildren. Marian adored her large family, and they gathered frequently at the family home in Holladay, UT, for birthdays and holidays, where 35-40 people would gather around the dinner table. Family was the joy of Marian's life. Marian's life was devoted to the service of others.
Marian was preceded in death by her daughter, Lorrie; first husband, Homer; and second husband, Mel. She is survived by 4 children, Scott (Diana) Adams; Mark (Marie) Adams; Terry Lynn (Alden) Carpenter; and Toni (Terry) Rogerson; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
