DAYTON - Ferieda Margaret Herring, 85, of Rt. 1, Dayton died Friday evening at Camelot Hall Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, where she had lived since Nov. 22.
Mrs. Herring was born Oct. 25,1897, in Astoria, Ore., and was a daughter of the late Dr. Thomas Lysander and Almire Leedy Ball.
She was a member of Bridgewater Presbyterian Church and had belonged to the Harrisonburg Garden Club before becoming ill.
On Aug. 20, 1924, she married Navy Capt. George Griffin Herring Jr., who is retired and lives at Sunnyside Presbyterian Home.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Navy Capt. George Griffin Herring III, who works in defense intelligence; two daughters, Jane Herring McMahon of Reston and Nancy Herring Stuart of Alexandria; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The body, which will be cremated, is at the Kyger & Trobaugh Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
Burial in Greenwood Cemetery at Bridgewater will be private.
The family will receive friends at the Herring home.
In lieu of flowers, the family said contributions may be made to Bridgewater Presbyterian Church.
