UPDATE, JUNE 6, 2014: THANK YOU to member Red for the links to photographs of many of the Hilgers' Family gravestones; this verifies my mother's original research and notations left behind, and it is greatly appreciated!
Eddie was the youngest son of my great Uncle Frank and great Aunt Alyce Hilgers; Frank was one of the Four Hilgers Boys that you can learn more about by going to their dad's page (William George Hilgers), as well as his own page, now.
My mother had very brief memories of Eddie, remembering that he looked 'like the Cherokee side of Alyce's family'. Alyce and Frank were the family members that my mother and her brother Butchie were staying with the summer of 1945, when both children were struck with food poisoning, and Butchie died (see page for Gary Dale Cox). Frank and Alyce were devasted when Butchie died, and years later, upon her own son's death, Alyce stated numerous times that she was 'seeing what losing a child was like'...I have heard through many, many relatives that Frank and Alyce's guilt - however askew - about Butchie was something that neither ever recovered from.
Eddie drowned at a family picnic outside Spokane, Washington on June 20, 1955; family members noticed that they hadn't seen Eddie in awhile and went looking for him. It is assumed that Eddie fell off the dock into the lake, and in attempting to save himself, came up under the dock, hit his head, lost conciousness and drowned.
