Enlisted on Mar. 6 1862, probably New Orleans. Shot in the leg at the Battle of Murfreesboro. Re-enlisted in Feb. 1864.

Unfortunately, there are two Benjamin's born to two different brothers in Kemper Co., Mississippi around the same time. Possible that Benjamin F. was James Thornton Bethany's brother and the son of Thomas Newton Bethany. Both men were in Co. C. Most of Co. C were related.
