Frances Collopy, wife of Dr. C.T. Collopy of Fort Collins, passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012. Fran was born Feb. 21, 1923, in Minden, Neb., to Cloyd and Clara Greene. As a small child she moved to her grandparents' home in Blue Hill, Neb., while her mother worked in Hastings. Schooled in Blue Hill through graduation from high school, Fran attended Hastings College in Nebraska, then received her R.N. degree from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester, Minn. She then worked at The Mayo Clinic as a surgical nurse for some of the world's leading surgeons.

After leaving Mayo, she worked at the renowned Denver Children's Hospital. Fran then became chief nurse of the outpatient pediatric clinic at The University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, where she met her future husband, Chuck, a senior medical student. In 1947 she spent six months working as a nurse at Queen's Hospital in Honolulu. Fran and Chuck married Feb. 4, 1948, in Seattle, Wash., then moved to the copper mining area of Miami, Ariz. After more than a decade in Arizona and several years in California, Fran and her family moved to Fort Collins in 1962.

Fran was a long-time member of P.E.O. and is remembered as an excellent swimmer, golfer, and as a lover of music, reading, horses, and gardening. She assisted greatly in the establishment of Fort Collins' large orthopedic center and The Children's Clinic.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Dr. C.T. Collopy of Fort Collins; her children: Ann Collopy, Cannon Beach, Ore.; Mary Collopy, Windsor, Conn.; Charles Collopy, Jr., Lake Oswego, Ore.; Frances M. Collopy, Fort Collins; and by four grandchildren: Matthew, Adam, Lauren, and Sean.

A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 6 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, Fran's family would encourage one to make a donation to their favorite charity.
