Tena Maude Guffey was born February 22, 1927 at Eminence, MO the daughter of George T. Fry and Tena W. (Loftin) Fry. She passed away April 23, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO at the age of 85 years.
She was united in marriage to Charles Boone Guffey on September 30, 1946 at the United Methodist Church in Eminence, MO and to this union three sons were born Gordon, David and Tommy.
Tena was preceded in death by her parents George and Tena Fry; husband Charles Guffey; two sisters Reva Sconce and Lucille Hensley; one brother Gordon Fry; two grandsons Stephen Guffey and David Guffey, Jr.; three sisters-in-law Mona Fry, Ida Lu Shryock and Pat Guffey; five brothers-in-law Buford Shryock, K.D. Guffey, Raymond Sconce, Jesse Sconce and Willie Hensley.
She is survived by her three sons Gordon Guffey and wife Phyllis of Eminence, MO, David Guffey and wife Annette of Ozark, MO and Thomas Guffey of Eminence, MO; one sister Milda Sconce of Eminence, MO; 6 grandchildren Dawn Walsh, Gordon Guffey, Jr., Tena Barnes, Gary Guffey, Keshia Guffey and Kaston Guffey; 7 great grandchildren Kourtney, Kelsey and Kayley Barnes, Elijah, Caleb and Jenna Guffey and Zoe McGee; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Tena lived her childhood years at the Junction attending rural schools and graduated from Eminence High School in the spring of 1945. She attended college at Pocahontas, AR and taught at rural schools for awhile. Tena and Charles made their home in Aztec, NM moving to Missouri in 1961. She professed her faith in Christ and united with the United Methodist Church of Eminence in 1990.
She was a homemaker and worked at Angelica Uniform Factory from the fall of 1963 until her retirement in 1984. Tena enjoyed making crafts and was a vendor at the annual craft fair for many years.
Tena will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral Services were held Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Eminence, MO with Rev. David Fowler officiating. Interment was in New Eminence Cemetery in Eminence, MO under the direction of Duncan Funeral Homes.
