Robert Fulkerson passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, after a courageous 8-month battle with leukemia.

I came to learn of my "Cousin" Bob, while researching my grandmother's maternal lineage through his fascinating website, www.fulkerson.org. It was through this site that the "brick wall" I had struggled with for years finally came tumbling down and I was able to trace my ancestry back to the 1300s.

Bob and I share a common ancestor in the personage of Caleb Fulkerson, a fifer in the Revolutionary War who was captured during a scouting expedition and confined in a New York prison for 8-9 months under brutal conditions. Caleb is buried on a vineyard-covered hillside overlooking Seneca Lake, a few hundred yards west of the Fulkerson Winery. It is here were Bob was also laid to rest--on the land our ancestor once owned and which has remained in the Fulkerson family to this day.

As a result of Bob's sharing his genealogical research on his website, my father and I were able to visit our ancestor's grave in 2010. It was truly an awesome experience and one which we shall never forget. Bob's website is so informative that it is reportedly used in classrooms as a teaching tool.

Many thanks, dear Cousin Bob. May you what rest in peace among our ancestors, enjoying the beautiful view of the lake and the vineyards.

Robert C. Fulkerson of West Jordan, Utah, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, after a courageous eight- month battle with leukemia.

A local memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on July 7, 2012, at Peace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley, with a reception to follow. Bob's remains will be buried at a private gravesite on his ancestors' farm in Dundee, N.Y.

Bob was born Nov. 24, 1950, at the Naval Hospital at St. Albans, Queens, N.Y. He spent his early years in San Carlos and San Jose, Calif. He joined the U.S. Army in 1970. He served as an X-ray tech in Philadelphia, and was honorably discharged in 1973.

He then went on to study at West Valley College and California State University, Hayward, and San Jose State. He married the love of his life Janice Lynn Turner on Oct. 19, 1980. He was employed at the VA Hospital in Mountain View, Calif., for several years before he left the Bay Area to pursue his goal of becoming chief of medical administration.

His work with the VA took him from California to Oregon, Illinois, Oklahoma, and finally Sheridan, Wyo., where he achieved his desired position. He then served as a E.E.O specialist and investigator. He retired from the VA after 24 years of service.

He was an Internet developer with Adventure Connection Travel and American Cowboy Magazine. At the age of 56, he changed vocations and became an electrician. After living in Sheridan, Wyo., for 18 years, he and his wife moved to West Jordan, Utah, to be closer to Janice's family.

He was a devoted husband and proud father and a grandfather to his loved ones whose lives he touched so deeply.

He was the husband of Janice Fulkerson of West Jordan; and the father of son, Lou (deceased); daughter, Amy; and son, Kyle. He was the son of Margaret and Robert Fulkerson of Grass Valley; brother of Lori Jayne of Penn Valley, Carol Fulkerson of Grass Valley and Gwen Fulkerson (deceased). He was the grandfather of six and the uncle of seven.
