Marjorie Banks Reed, loving mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 29, 2012, at the age of ninety-one. She will be remembered for the kindness and attention she gave to all her family, friends and neighbors. Her home was often filled with gatherings and visits, and was always a place you could find someone interested in your day and the particulars of your life.
Marge was born July 9, 1921 to Samantha Chloa Berry Banks and Benjamin Frederick Banks. She grew up with her siblings, Donna, Lola, Berry, Joe, Jeanne and Ben at the "house on Lincoln Street," moving later to Delwood Court where many of them raised their children together and then to Peaks Circle where she and her brother Ben, and their families, have lived and gathered together for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband George, and is survived by her daughter, Jodee, (Paul) and her granddaughter Chloe.
In 1944, like many young people in WWII, she met, fell in love, and married her husband of 63 years, George Wesley Reed. They spent their honeymoon at Wendover Air Force Base, a favorite family story, and after the war they settled in Salt Lake City, raised their daughter and became Aunt Marge and Uncle George to many nieces and nephews. They enjoyed road trips, and vacations with friends and family, as well as extended visits to Seattle to spend time with their family there. As a 50th wedding celebration, they traveled to England to re-visit the places George had been during the war. Marge served in various capacities, including Relief Society president, in the LDS church for many years.
We will always miss and remember the way Marge had of making you feel you held a special place in the center of her life. She was never too busy to see you, or help you, to fix you a bite to eat, or give you a place to spend the night, and no one ever left without a piece of candy. We will always hold her in the center of our hearts, as well. She would want a special appreciation given, for the constant and tender care she received in her last years, to her brother and his wife, Ben and Susan Banks, as well as to her care giver, Irma Rios.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wesley Road LDS Chapel, 5235 S., 1150 E. A viewing will be Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So.
