~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Celebration of the Life of Thomas Goodmon was held at 10:00 a.m., Fri., Aug. 3rd, 2012 in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service. Tommy was laid to rest beside his mother at Woodlawn Cemetery following the service. Tommy passed away Wed., Aug. 1st, 2012 at the age of 55.
Born in Neodesha, Kansas on April 27, 1957 to Thomas and Ethel May (Pickett) Goodmon, Tommy grew up and received his education in both Kansas and Colorado. As a young man, Tommy's mischievous nature expressed itself in his contagious smile and a number of humorous incidents; one of which involved a goat, his sister's stereo and a powder puff football game.
Athletic and active, Tommy was a football and baseball player and hurdler on his school's track team. He also loved deer hunting in the beautiful mountains of Colorado. With the help of his brother, Mike, Tommy built a yellow '57 Chevy model that took 3rd place in a national competition sponsored by Ben Franklin Five and Dime. Injured in an automobile accident at the age of 15, Tommy's indomitable spirit endured. Caring for him brought many years of joy and innumerable blessings to his family. Tommy and his devoted father became so close they communicated wordlessly.
An integral part of his loving family, Tommy slipped away from his earthly home and entered his home in heaven. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. Family members who survive include his father, Tom Goodmon, Sr. and wife, Shirley, of Claremore; his brother Mike Goodmon and wife, Pam, of Burlington, KS; his sister Tami Peck and husband, Ralph, also of Claremore; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and his sister, Shirley Smith. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in memorium to Akdar Temple, 2808 S. Sheridan Road, Tulsa, OK 74129.
