United States Army Brigadier General. A gradate of Middlebury College, Vermont, he enlisted in the US Army and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant on August 15, 1917. During WW I, he served as a Intelligence Officer, later Commanding Officer, Company L, 38th Infantry, American Expeditionary Forces, France From December 1917 to December 1919 and was wounded in action at the Meuse Argonne Battle. After the war he returned to the US as Captain and promoted Major, 24th Infantry at Camp Furlong, New Mexico in June 1920. As Lieutenant Colonel, he served duties as, 52nd Brigade Assistant Chief Statistical Officer, Camp Perry, Ohio and Assistant Chief, Training Division, National Guard Bureau, Washington, D. C. He was appointed Colonel December 31, 1941, Commanding Officer, 9th Headquarters Special Troops, Camp Maxey, Texas and promoted Brigadier General September 28, 1943. As Commanding General he served the Oise Intermediate Section European Forces and the Continental Base Section, United States Forces, occupation of Germany from November 1945 to March 1947. He retired from active service and as the Deputy Director General, European Command on March 31, 1948. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
