Sherman Pendergarst was a professional fighter in martial arts, first appearing in a mixed martial arts ring on April 2, 2005 and winning his first fight in round one. He graduated from high school from Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, Virginia as a good athlete in both football and wrestling in 1985. He graduated from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia with a Bachelor in Business in 1992. While attending college, he was a member of the wrestling team. Working as a mortgage broker after college, he missed participating in sports, thus he began training in martial arts and boxing. He moved from Virginia to Davenport, Iowa in 2006 to train at Miletich Fighting Systems located in Bettendorf, Iowa. He was signed by the Ultimate Fighting Championship. His professional sports career began in 2005 through February 2012 with a record of 11 wins, 18 losses and one no-contest. He was an American ranked as a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Sherman died of cancer.
