Abraham Morehead was born to Andrew Jr. and Lydia (Burger) Morehead. On Dec 12, 1861 Abraham married Susannah Miller daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Leslie) Miller. When Abraham Morehead was 23 years old he enrolled in the Ohio Volunteer Infantry on Aug 14 1862, in Company #1 98th Regiment in Brown Township Ohio. His Rank was private and Sergeant. During the "Battle of Chickamauga" on Sept. 20, 1863, Abraham was wounded on the top of his head by a minnie ball. He spent some time in the nearby hospital in Tennessee. Abraham was honorably discharged on June 1, 1865 by reason of close of war. Abraham went back to Ohio and began his family. Abrahan and Susannah bore seven children: Rosa Eugenia, Anna Zilphia, Dilla Jean, George Robbins, Thomas Leroy, Bertha May and Lawrence Abraham. Abraham was so impressed with Tennessee that he moved his family in 1885 after buying a farm in Summitville. Of the Children Anna, George, Thomas, Lawrence and Bertha May chose "Southerners" as mates while the other ones, Dilla and Rosa chose Ohio natives and did not live in Tennessee.
